What is NetSuite 2026.1?

NetSuite 2026.1 is the first of two major releases Oracle ships every year for the NetSuite platform. It rolled out on Oracle's staggered per-account schedule beginning in late February 2026, reaching production accounts over the following weeks and applied automatically without action required from customers.

The release follows Oracle's standard cadence:

• 2026.1 — March 2026 (general availability)
• 2026.2 — rolling out since July 2026 (Oracle announced the rollout on July 15, 2026; accounts are upgraded on a staggered schedule)

Each release introduces new features, improvements to existing modules, and bug fixes. Some features ship as default-on (you get them automatically), others as opt-in features (you enable them in the Features Manager), and a smaller set as early-adopter previews (available on request).

NetSuite 2026.1 is heavier than recent releases because it ties into the broader NetSuite Next initiative — the platform-wide UX and AI overhaul Oracle has been previewing since SuiteWorld 2025.

What's new across the platform in 2026.1

The cross-cutting themes of the 2026.1 release:

1. AI everywhere, not just in finance. Oracle is embedding AI features across modules — close management, bank reconciliation, customer service summaries, and Ask Oracle natural language queries. Most are opt-in and require enabling specific features.

2. Redwood UI rolling out. The new Redwood-based interface (part of NetSuite Next) is now available as an optional toggle. Functionally identical to classic UI but with cleaner navigation, better mobile responsiveness, and the foundation for AI-driven interactions.

3. Better workflow automation. Several long-standing friction points in approvals, journal entry workflows, and bank reconciliation have been addressed.

4. Stronger developer tooling. SuiteCloud Development Framework gets new APIs, debugging improvements, and better integration with the Control Center for SuiteApp distribution.

5. Tightened security defaults. New 2FA enforcement options, refined role-based permissions, and audit log enhancements that simplify SOX compliance.

NetSuite Next: the platform overhaul behind 2026

The biggest story of the 2026 cycle isn't any single feature — it's the broader NetSuite Next initiative. Three pieces matter:

Redwood UI. The new interface based on Oracle's Redwood design system. Available as a per-user toggle in 2026.1, expected to become default sometime in 2027. Same data, same workflows, modernized presentation.

Ask Oracle. Natural language assistant that lets non-technical users query NetSuite data without building saved searches. Ask "show me overdue invoices over $10K from customers in California" and get the answer. Rolling out through 2026 in North America first.

AI Canvas. Scenario-planning interface for finance teams. Model "what if we hire 10 more reps" or "what if Q3 revenue drops 15%" and see the downstream impact on cash flow, headcount, and operating margin.

SuiteConnect 2026 AI announcements

SuiteConnect 2026 was Oracle's mid-cycle event where they expanded on the AI vision. Key announcements:

• Agentic workflows — AI agents that complete multi-step tasks (close the books, reconcile bank accounts, answer customer questions) instead of just generating text
• AI Customer Service — automated case summarization, response drafting, and sentiment analysis built into NetSuite CRM
• Document AI — automatic extraction of vendor bills, expense receipts, and supplier invoices into NetSuite records
• Ask Oracle expansion — broader query coverage and integration with reports and dashboards
• Embedded AI for SuiteCommerce — product recommendation engines and search relevance powered by AI

NetSuite 2026.2: what shipped

NetSuite 2026.2 is rolling out now. Oracle announced the release on July 15, 2026 and published the release notes. Accounts are upgraded on a staggered schedule, so in Oracle's words: "The 2026.2 enhancements and changes listed in this document are not available until your account is upgraded to NetSuite 2026.2." Your date is in the New Release portlet on your dashboard.

The highlights:

• Banking gets the largest block — seven bank reconciliation enhancements, including match suggestions and payment application for open invoices and open payables.
• Payment Runs brings a real accounts payable workflow for processing multiple payables from one transaction.
• Inventory Optimization sets reorder points from demand patterns and lead-time variability, and Rough-Cut Capacity Planning checks machine and labor capacity before you commit a plan.
• The NetSuite CPQ AI Assistant guides configuration from natural-language prompts.
• Three changes alter existing behaviour without raising an error: the SuiteQL default sort order, assembly components leaving hidden transaction lines, and automatic reconciliation submission.

SuiteCommerce is not in this release: the notes state the 2026.2 release of SuiteCommerce, SuiteCommerce MyAccount, and SuiteCommerce Advanced "will be available in a future release."

What breaks in 2026.2: read this before you upgrade

Three changes in 2026.2 alter existing behaviour rather than adding to it. None of them throw an error, which is what makes them worth testing.

1. SuiteQL default sort order changed. Queries and Analytics datasets based on generic transactions now default to sorting by Transaction.tranDate instead of Transaction.tranDisplayName. Oracle made the change to prevent performance issues. Anything that specifies a sort order is unaffected; anything relying on the old implicit ordering returns rows in a different sequence. Add an explicit ORDER BY wherever order carries meaning.

2. Assembly components are no longer stored on hidden transaction lines. With Advanced Bill of Materials enabled, this applies across Cash Refund, Cash Sale, Sales-Type Custom Transaction, Credit Memo, Invoice, Deprecated Custom Transaction, Estimate, Opportunity, Revenue Commitment, Revenue Commitment Reversal, Authorization, and Sales Order. Scripts or saved searches reading those hidden lines will find nothing there.

3. Bank reconciliation submission is now automatic. Manual matches and cleared transactions submit for reconciliation without the separate step. Match and Submit replaces Match; Clear and Submit replaces Clear. Any documented process or training material describing the two-step flow is now wrong.

Two more that change defaults rather than break things: payment match suggestions are enabled by default for both accounts receivable and accounts payable (the AP side is new), and blank Bill Capture preference values now map to explicit ones — blank Save Tax As becomes No tax, blank Save Shipping Cost As becomes No shipping cost.

How to prepare for NetSuite releases

A few practical patterns that work for our clients:

1. Test in your sandbox before release goes live. Oracle pushes 2026.x releases to sandbox accounts roughly 4 weeks before production. Use that window to validate your customizations, integrations, and workflows.

2. Read the release notes for your role only. Reading the 800-page Oracle release document end-to-end is wasteful. Focus on the role-specific posts above.

3. Audit feature toggles annually. Many opt-in features from prior releases are still relevant — review your Features Manager once a year and enable what's worth enabling.

4. Subscribe to release preview. Oracle's Release Preview portal gives you early visibility into what's coming. Free for all customers.

5. Coordinate with your integration vendors. Celigo, Boomi, and other iPaaS partners typically certify compatibility 2-4 weeks before release. Don't assume your integrations will survive — verify.
