NetSuite 2026.2: Operations & Manufacturing Updates

NetSuite 2026.2 for operations: the new Inventory Optimization feature, Rough-Cut Capacity Planning, and manufacturing performance changes.

This is the fourth installment of our NetSuite 2026.2 Release Notes Series, broken down by role so you only read what applies to your work.

Operations gets the most genuinely new functionality in 2026.2. Two features — Inventory Optimization and Rough-Cut Capacity Planning — are things teams have been building in spreadsheets for years.

A note on sourcing. This is based on Oracle's Release Preview release notes for 2026.2, which every page marks as subject to change. Details can shift before general availability, and we will update this post if Oracle revises them.


Inventory Optimization: reorder points that respond to reality

The headline for supply planners. Inventory Optimization sets Reorder Point planning parameters from actual demand patterns, lead-time variability, and service-level targets, rather than from values someone typed in during implementation and nobody has revisited since.

How it turns on

Enable Advanced Inventory Management first. Then Setup > Company > Enable Features > Items & Inventory subtab, and check Inventory Optimization.

The important reassurance for anyone nervous about switching this on in production: enabling the feature does not change existing planning values. Nothing moves until you explicitly include eligible Reorder Point items in Inventory Optimization. Administrators can also gate access with the dedicated Inventory Optimization permission.

How it works

Once enabled, planners can set optimization preferences, review the nine predefined Inventory Optimization Segment records, include eligible items, and run or schedule segmentation at item or item-location level. Per-location segmentation requires the Advanced Item Location Configuration feature.

Segmentation sorts items or item locations into ABC/123 categories. Each segment carries a service level that drives downstream planning math, and planners can override the service level for specific items or item locations where the classification does not fit the commercial reality.

When NetSuite calculates optimized parameters it updates four values per eligible item location:

  • lead time
  • safety stock level
  • reorder point
  • preferred stock level

Segmentation and calculation results are stored for SuiteAnalytics reporting, so you can actually audit what the system decided and why.

Reorder Point items you do not include keep using standard Reorder Point calculations — the two coexist. Both paths support Order Items, Replenish Location by Transfer Order, and Mass Create Work Orders.

Exception management got the matching upgrade

Exception Management for Inventory Optimization now includes inventory exception detection, surfacing projected stock-out, shortage, and overstock exceptions on the Inventory Imbalance tab of the Exception Management page. It requires Inventory Optimization to be enabled, plus the relevant Exception Management and Inventory Optimization permissions.

Optimization that recalculates parameters without telling you where the plan is about to fail is half a feature. This is the other half.


Rough-Cut Capacity Planning

RCCP reviews required and available capacity by work center over a date range, using planned time from work orders and planned work orders to expose overloads and underloads before you commit to a plan.

What the report gives you:

  • Filters by subsidiary, location, work center, date range, assembly item, supply plan definition, and other planning criteria.
  • Daily, weekly, or monthly time buckets.
  • Total and required machine and labor capacity, with utilization for each.
  • Refinement by resource type and utilization range, to isolate overloaded or underutilized work centers.
  • Expandable rows showing the underlying transactions — operation, transaction number, start and end dates, required capacity, utilization.

Two setup details determine whether the numbers mean anything:

  1. Work Center records now carry total machine and labor capacity fields. RCCP calculates available capacity from these. If they are empty or wrong, the report is confidently wrong.
  2. Planned work orders only appear in RCCP if they come from a Supply Plan Definition with the new Include in RCCP box checked. That box is clear by default. When you check it and save, NetSuite runs RCCP processing after MRP completes successfully.

So RCCP is opt-in twice — once on the Supply Plan Definition, once implicitly by populating your work center capacity data.


Supply planning: pegging analysis workbooks

Two new workbooks ship with the Material Requirements Planning feature:

  • Pegging Analysis (Demand View) — linked supply and demand records in a peg chain tied to current or future demand.
  • Pegging Analysis (Supply View) — the same chain viewed from planned or incoming supply.

Both cover items using the MRP replenishment method. The value is visibility across pegging levels: seeing which top-level demand a given supply record is actually serving, so you prioritise the right thing when supply is short.


Inventory changes worth knowing

Initial Average Cost for Items. With Multi-Location Inventory you can now set an initial average cost per location on new item records only, in the Initial Average Cost column — and you cannot edit it after saving. It cannot be set on existing item records at all, even ones with no transactions yet.

If you run Advanced Item Location Configuration, the rules are friendlier: the field appears on the Item Location Configuration page, and you can set and edit it on new and existing item records that have no associated transactions. Once the first transaction posts, it locks.

If you use the Costed Bill of Materials SuiteApp, initial average cost of BOM components can feed estimated assembly cost calculations.

The practical note: for anyone migrating item masters, the non-ALIC path is one-shot. Get it right in the import.

Bin transfers for vendor consigned inventory. You can now move vendor consigned items between bins within the same location using the Bin Transfer form. When choosing the destination bin you can keep the item's status or assign a different consigned inventory status only. If a bin transfer includes non-consigned items or quantities, you cannot assign them consigned statuses — a deliberate guard against accidental ownership transfer.


Manufacturing: two performance changes and a bulk cost update

Exclude zero quantity components. Before 2026.2, component lines with zero quantity were stored on manufacturing posting transactions during transformation. The new Do Not Store Zero Quantity Components on Transaction Lines preference stops that, reducing stored transaction lines and improving manufacturing transaction and costing performance.

It applies to Assembly Build, Assembly Unbuild, Work Order Issue, and Work Order Completion, requires the Assemblies feature, and does not affect existing transactions — only newly created ones.

Assembly components off hidden transaction lines. With Advanced Bill of Materials enabled, assembly item components are no longer stored on hidden transaction lines. This applies across a wide set of sales-side transaction types: Cash Refund, Cash Sale, Sales-Type Custom Transaction, Credit Memo, Invoice, Deprecated Custom Transaction, Estimate, Opportunity, Revenue Commitment, Revenue Commitment Reversal, Authorization, and Sales Order.

If you have scripts or saved searches reading those hidden lines, this is the change that will quietly break them. It is worth an explicit search of your customizations.

Bulk cost updates for manufacturing charges. You can now bulk update costs for manufacturing charge items, including routing operations charges, on production transactions — using either the current purchase price from the item record or a specified custom unit cost.

Supported: Service, Non-Inventory, and Other Charge items with Purchase or Resale subtypes. Not supported: items with Outsourcing Charge, Landed, or Service cost categories. A new Allow Bulk Update Costs for Production Charges preference gates the feature.


Also in this release

  • Order fulfillment can start directly from sales order record lists, instead of opening each order or running a separate bulk process. The flow depends on your setup — without Advanced Shipping, fulfilling can also bill the order by opening an invoice or cash sale flow. Users need the same permissions as normal fulfillment: Fulfill Orders with Edit, Sales Order with View, Item Fulfillment with Create, plus Create on invoices or cash sales depending on the flow. Existing workflows, customizations, and scripts are unaffected.
  • Units type records are now importable via CSV, so setting up units of measure in bulk no longer means one at a time.
  • Field Service Management shipped several 2026 versions across the year — 2026.01.1, 2026.03.1, 2026.03.2, 2026.05.1, and 2026.05.2 — documented separately from the main release cycle.

What we would test first

  1. Inventory Optimization on a narrow item set. It is opt-in per item, so pilot a segment rather than including everything, and compare its calculated reorder points against what your planners would have set.
  2. Work center capacity data, before trusting an RCCP number. The report is only as good as the machine and labor capacity fields behind it.
  3. Anything reading hidden assembly component lines, given the Advanced Bill of Materials storage change.
