NetSuite WMS is the warehouse module Oracle sells on top of NetSuite's inventory features. Most pages about it are vendor pitches for an alternative. This one sticks to what Oracle's documentation says the module does, what it needs, what it costs to the extent Oracle says anything, and where its documented limits are. If you are comparing it with third-party options, our best WMS for NetSuite guide does that side by side.
Direct answer: NetSuite WMS is Oracle's paid add-on module that runs warehouse work on a mobile device inside NetSuite: receiving and putaway, wave release and single, multi-order, bulk and zone picking, packing, cycle counts, replenishment and inventory status changes, with every scan updating NetSuite inventory in real time. It requires Advanced Inventory Management, bins and two SuiteApps.
What NetSuite WMS does
Oracle's NetSuite WMS Overview describes the module as an extension of NetSuite's inventory features that tracks "warehouse processing tasks, from receiving and storing items to picking and shipping", with each mobile transaction updating NetSuite inventory in real time. The table below maps the features to the Oracle documentation that defines them.
| Process | What the module does | Oracle reference |
|---|---|---|
| Receiving | Receive purchase, transfer and inbound shipment orders by scanning on the app; create item receipts | Inbound Processing |
| Putaway | Directed putaway with putaway strategies that suggest bins by sequence | Warehouse Management Strategies |
| Order release | Wave transactions built from sales and transfer orders, filtered by priority or ship date; wave release schedules; pick tasks generated per wave | Releasing Orders to the Warehouse |
| Picking | Single order, multiple order, bulk, zone and carton picking; pick strategies; partial picks; serialized item picking; pick task reversal | Picking Orders |
| Packing | Manual packing in the NetSuite UI with packing lists, or automatic "Packed" status after picking; SSCC-18 labels; kiosk packing through Ship Central | Packing Orders |
| Shipping | WMS shipping integration, Quick Ship in the app, or Ship Central shipping, all using the WMS Ship Manifest record | Shipping Orders |
| Inventory counts | Manual and calculated counts, cycle count plans, counting in bins on the app, approve or reject, recount | Inventory Counts |
| Replenishment | Tasks generated when a primary bin falls below WMS Replen Min Qty, sized by Max, Round and task quantities | Replenishment |
| Inventory moves | Bin and inventory transfers, inventory status changes, searching and creating inventory, work order and vendor-return picking | Inventory Processing |
| Mobile app | Browser-based SCM Mobile app on handheld scanners; label printing; file capture; translations | Mobile Device Basics |
Two things the marketing pages blur:
- Smart Count is a separate SuiteApp. Oracle's product page describes NetSuite Smart Count as a cycle counting solution that counts "without freezing transactions in the entire location" and alerts counters if the item moves during the count. Oracle's WMS FAQ lists it among the SuiteApps that add capabilities to WMS, alongside Ship Central, Manufacturing Mobile, Lot Autonumbering, Estimated Landed Cost and Consigned Inventory Management. All of them run on the same SCM Mobile SuiteApp.
- Packing lives in two places. Oracle's setup chapter says you "shouldn't use the packing capabilities available in NetSuite WMS and Ship Central at the same time", because they update fulfillment records differently. Pick one.
Oracle's 2026.1 release added kit and non-inventory items in app searches, landed cost validation on PO receipt, reversal of inbound shipments, and back-order alerts during work order picking, per the 2026.1 operations article.
Requirements: what has to be in place
The module is not a single checkbox. Oracle's Enabling Features for NetSuite WMS page lists the prerequisite features, all under Setup > Company > Enable Features:
| Subtab | Required features |
|---|---|
| Company | Multiple Units of Measure |
| Transactions | Advanced Shipping, Pick, Pack and Ship |
| Items & Inventory | Basic Inventory Management, Multi-Location Inventory, Bin Management, Advanced Bin / Numbered Inventory Management, Advanced Inventory Management |
| SuiteCloud | Custom Records, Advanced PDF/HTML Templates, Client SuiteScript, Server SuiteScript |
Then the Warehouse Management feature itself (Items & Inventory subtab, under Inventory). If it is not visible, Oracle says to contact NetSuite Customer Support to provision it, which in practice means it has to be on your contract. Bin Management and Advanced Bin / Numbered Inventory Management are required even if you only run locations without bins.
Two SuiteApps install through SuiteBundler, in this order, per Installing the NetSuite WMS SuiteApps: SCM Mobile (bundle ID 705882, about 3 to 5 minutes) and Oracle NetSuite WMS (bundle ID 705198, about 20 to 30 minutes). After that you activate the "Enable Warehouse Management" system rule and set up the WMS roles. Oracle's WMS Overview also notes the feature is only available in accounts using Advanced Inventory Management.
For devices, Oracle's SCM Mobile requirements ask for a handheld with a 1D barcode scanner, a 4 inch or larger touch screen, iOS (iPadOS 18 or later; latest iOS on iPhone 13 or newer) or Android 7.0 or later, and the latest Chrome or Safari. The app runs in the browser; there is no native download. Optional features you may also want: Inventory Count, Inventory Status, Lot Numbered Items, Serial Numbered Items, Inbound Shipment Management, Advanced Receiving and Vendor Return Authorizations.
How much NetSuite WMS costs
Oracle does not publish a price. Its WMS product page says only that "NetSuite WMS is available as an add-on module" within an annual license made up of the core platform, optional modules and user count, plus a one-time implementation fee. Our NetSuite pricing guide lists the monthly range clients have reported paying for the module, with the caveat that Oracle sets the number in each contract and it depends on your edition and term. Budget separately for the handhelds, label printers and the PrintNode integration Oracle's docs describe for printing labels from the app, and for the process design and parallel run that take most of a WMS project's hours.
Limits Oracle documents (and one it does not)
Sourced limits, from the pages linked:
- Waves cover sales and transfer orders only. Oracle's limitations list states waves can be created only for those two transaction types.
- No FIFO or LIFO pick sorting. The same page says both are "not supported" for pick task sorting.
- Fulfillment settings that stop applying once an order is released: Fulfill Based on Commitment, Allow Overage on Item Fulfillments (you cannot pick more than the pick task quantity) and Use Item Cost as Transfer Cost.
- Large orders become background jobs. Per Picking Orders, picking of orders over 50 pick task lines and staging over 25 lines are submitted as jobs; the bulk picking and bulk staging rules let you change the thresholds.
- Browser app, live connection. Oracle's mobile documentation describes real-time posting to NetSuite and does not describe an offline mode.
- WMS packing or Ship Central packing, not both.
The limit Oracle does not document: license plates. We found no page in the NetSuite WMS help that describes license plate (LPN) tracking for pallets or totes, and it is the capability third-party vendors lead with. RF-SMART sells a License Plating module that builds, splits, combines and moves license plates across receiving, putaway, picking and manufacturing. If your warehouse moves full pallets with lot or serial tracking, ask Oracle directly whether native WMS covers your flow before you sign.
On volume, the honest statement is that Oracle publishes no throughput ceiling for WMS, and we have not seen a third-party benchmark we would cite. The practical signals are the ones above: job thresholds, wave scope and pick sorting. Pilot your busiest day in a sandbox with your real order profile.

Get a WMS recommendationWhen you need RF-SMART or Deposco instead
Native WMS, RF-SMART and Deposco solve different problems, and none of them is "the best" in the abstract.
- Native NetSuite WMS fits when your processes match Oracle's flows (waves, bin strategies, mobile receiving and counting), you want one system of record with no integration to maintain, and your warehouse is yours rather than a 3PL's. Everything in this post is what you get.
- RF-SMART runs inside NetSuite as a SuiteApp and adds mobile workflows Oracle's module does not document, license plating being the clearest example. It is the usual next step when the warehouse outgrows native WMS but stays on NetSuite as the inventory master.
- Deposco is a standalone cloud WMS that integrates with NetSuite through SuiteTalk web services; its NetSuite page lists order, inventory, kit and work order, customer and vendor interfaces. It belongs in the conversation when a 3PL already runs it, or when you need warehouse execution that NetSuite will not own. We built a bidirectional NetSuite-Deposco integration for a client whose new 3PL ran Deposco: sales and purchase orders out, fulfillments and receipts back.
