NetSuite ACS Alternatives: When to Stay and When to Switch

NetSuite ACS or an independent partner? When ACS is the right fit, when a retainer fits better, and how to compare both at renewal without losing knowledge.

Contents8 sections ↓

Advanced Customer Support (ACS) is Oracle's managed services subscription for NetSuite, and for some companies it is exactly the right thing to buy. For others, the work they need each month is a different kind of work. The question at renewal is not whether ACS is good. It is whether it matches what your account needs now.

Direct answer: The main alternative to NetSuite ACS is an independent NetSuite partner on a monthly retainer, usually combined with Premium Support from Oracle for platform cases. ACS fits best when you want product guidance and optimization from Oracle's own consultants, with Oracle's escalation paths. A retainer fits best when most of your requests are about your own customizations: saved searches, workflows, SuiteScript and integrations, which Oracle's support policies leave outside its obligations. Leaving is not always the right move. Compare the hours and scope you are quoted for ACS with what an independent team would deliver for the same budget, and if you switch, plan a handover so nothing your current team knows is lost.

Written on November 5, 2026 from Oracle's public ACS pages and support policies, linked at the end. ACS terms vary by contract.

What ACS is, in Oracle's words

Oracle's help center lists four ACS tiers. As you move up, "the amount of engagement, proactivity, and resource expertise increases":

TierWhat Oracle says it includes
AdviseAccess to NetSuite specialists for product guidance and system troubleshooting
MonitorA designated functional consultant who helps with project activities and milestones
OptimizeA designated Customer Success Manager plus a functional consultant
ArchitectA senior CSM and a named team of technical, functional and support resources, for complex international or multi-subsidiary accounts

Oracle's ACS comparison gives Monitor 36 hours per quarter, Optimize 20 hours per month and Architect 40 hours per month. Pricing is not published. For how ACS sits next to Basic and Premium Support, see NetSuite support levels explained.

When staying with ACS makes sense

Leaving is not always the right move. ACS can be the better choice when:

  • You want Oracle's own consultants, employed by the company that builds NetSuite, with Oracle's internal escalation paths.
  • Your account runs mostly on standard features, with few scripts and integrations, so product guidance is most of what you need.
  • The team you have today knows your account and the work is getting done. Changing providers has a cost: the new team has to learn your business.

If that describes you, renewing is a reasonable decision.

What ACS offers, and how we cover the same ground

The usual reasons to pick ACS are platform knowledge, complex accounts and having one provider. An independent partner can cover all three:

What companies look forACSBrokenRubik
Deep NetSuite knowledgeOracle consultantsA NetSuite-only team since 2017, with more than 100 companies served; our founders have worked on NetSuite for over a decade. We know the platform and your customizations on top of it
Complex, multi-subsidiary accountsThe Architect tier, with a named teamWe implement and support OneWorld accounts: multiple subsidiaries, currencies and intercompany flows
One provider for everythingLicense, support and services from OracleOne team for implementation, administration, SuiteScript, integrations and commerce (SuiteCommerce or Shopify). The license stays with Oracle, so our advice is never tied to selling one

When a partner retainer fits better

The difference is in what each one owns. Oracle's support policies exclude "adaptations, configurations or modifications" made by you or a third party, "including those that are made using SuiteScript or JavaScript", and development under ACS is scoped and priced separately. That is the layer where most of the work in a mature NetSuite account happens.

A partner retainer tends to fit better when:

  • Most requests are about your customizations: a saved search that stopped matching the GL, a workflow that approves the wrong bills, a script written years ago, an integration that fails.
  • You want the same people building and fixing. One team that writes the change, tests it and keeps it working.
  • You need integration work every month: Shopify, Celigo, Boomi, 3PLs, payments.
  • You want release testing on your own code before each of NetSuite's two releases a year.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Some accounts keep a lower ACS tier for product guidance and use a partner for development.

How BrokenRubik works

We are an independent, NetSuite-only team. This is how our NetSuite support retainer runs, as stated on that page:

  • One team that owns the work. The same people write, fix and maintain your scripts, workflows and integrations, from administration to SuiteScript and Celigo or Boomi flows.
  • Release testing included. We test your customizations and integrations in sandbox before each NetSuite release reaches production.
  • Everything documented, and yours. Every change, script and configuration decision goes into your account documentation, so the knowledge stays with you even if you change firms later.
  • Sized to your account. Usually 10 to 40 hours a month, quoted in writing after a short review. Month-to-month, adjustable with 30 days' notice.
  • Easy to reach. A shared Slack or Teams channel, a weekly status call and a quarterly review. Based in Uruguay, with working hours that overlap US East Coast and Central European time, and a first reply within 24 hours.
  • A clear start. The first one to two weeks are an audit of your configuration, scripts and integrations, which becomes the baseline for everything after.

We do not sell licenses, so the recommendation we give you at renewal is not tied to one.

How to compare at renewal

Have the alternative in hand before the renewal conversation, so you are comparing two concrete offers.

  1. Read the ACS order. ACS is sold under its own order, separate from the NetSuite subscription. Note the term end date, the renewal and notice clause, and whether any renewal pricing on the subscription is linked to ACS. Our NetSuite pricing guide explains how renewal caps work.
  2. List what you asked for last year. Sort the requests into product questions, configuration, customizations and integrations. The mix tells you which model fits.
  3. Get both quotes in writing. The ACS tier and hours on one side; a partner scope, hours and price on the other. Ask for the subscription renewal quote with and without ACS, so you see total cost.
  4. Decide on Premium Support separately. Premium Support covers platform cases with Severity 1 to 4 and 24x7 phone support for Severity 1 and 2. Your partner can log cases on your behalf only if you have Premium Support and authorize them as a caller.

If you switch: a handover that keeps the knowledge

The main risk in any change of provider is losing what the current team knows. Start early, ideally two to three months before the ACS term ends.

  • Ask your current team for a summary of what they configured, open items, recurring tasks and known workarounds, and use remaining hours for that.
  • Export what exists in the account: Customization > Scripting > Scripts and Customization > Workflow > Workflows show what is built and who owns it.
  • Overlap for a few weeks. Let the new team shadow the current one before taking over day-to-day requests.
  • Name an owner on your side who sets priorities, whoever does the work.

If the account has problems you want to understand before deciding, start with a NetSuite health check.
