NetSuite

Integrate Sovos tax compliance with NetSuite to automate tax determination, regulatory reporting, e-invoicing, and 1099 filing from your ERP data.

NetSuite certified · Proven integration methodology · Ongoing support

Sovos handles the tax compliance problems that go beyond sales tax calculation -- VAT, e-invoicing mandates, 1099 reporting, excise taxes, and regulatory filing across jurisdictions. The NetSuite integration feeds transaction data to Sovos for real-time tax determination and automated compliance reporting.

Tax Compliance Is More Than Just Sales Tax

Most tax automation tools focus on sales tax calculation. Sovos goes broader. They cover sales and use tax, VAT, e-invoicing mandates, 1099 reporting, excise taxes, and regulatory reporting across the US and internationally. If your tax compliance headaches extend beyond calculating the right rate at checkout, Sovos is built for that complexity.

The NetSuite integration connects your transaction data with Sovos's tax engine and compliance platform. Transactions in NetSuite get accurate tax determination, and the data flows to Sovos for filing, reporting, and compliance with mandates like real-time e-invoicing requirements that are spreading across Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

What We Build

Tax Determination: Sales orders, invoices, and purchase orders in NetSuite call Sovos's tax engine for real-time rate calculation. This covers sales tax, use tax, and VAT depending on the transaction type and jurisdiction. The engine handles product taxability, exemptions, and jurisdiction-specific rules automatically.

E-Invoicing Compliance: If you operate in countries with e-invoicing mandates (Mexico's CFDI, Brazil's NF-e, Italy's SDI, and growing requirements across Europe), Sovos generates compliant electronic invoices from your NetSuite transaction data. The integration extracts the required data, submits it to the tax authority, and stores the response back in NetSuite.

1099 Reporting: For US operations, Sovos automates 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC reporting. Vendor payments from NetSuite feed into Sovos for TIN validation, threshold tracking, and year-end form generation and filing. This replaces the annual scramble of pulling vendor data, validating TINs, and manually preparing 1099 forms.

Use Tax Accrual: Purchases where the vendor didn't charge tax (common with out-of-state or international vendors) need use tax accrual. Sovos identifies these transactions and calculates the use tax due. The integration posts the accrual journal entries in NetSuite.

Regulatory Reporting: Sovos generates the tax returns, VAT filings, and regulatory reports required in each jurisdiction. Your NetSuite transaction data feeds these reports automatically, with Sovos handling the format and submission requirements specific to each authority.

Technical Architecture: Sovos connects to NetSuite through a combination of real-time API calls (for tax determination) and batch data extracts (for reporting and filing). The tax determination uses a SuiteScript integration point that calls Sovos during transaction entry. Reporting data flows through scheduled exports to Sovos's compliance platform. Authentication uses OAuth 2.0, and we configure retry logic for API availability.

Key Benefits

  • Multi-tax-type coverage. One platform for sales tax, VAT, use tax, excise tax, and 1099 reporting.
  • E-invoicing compliance. Meet real-time invoicing mandates without building country-specific solutions.
  • Automated 1099 filing. Year-end 1099 processing goes from a multi-week project to a review-and-submit workflow.
  • Use tax handled. Stop missing use tax accruals on out-of-state purchases.
  • Global coverage. Tax rules and rates for 70+ countries maintained by Sovos, not your team.

Is This Right for You?

Sovos makes the most sense for companies with complex tax compliance requirements -- multiple countries, e-invoicing mandates, 1099 reporting, or industry-specific tax rules. The platform earns its cost when you're replacing multiple point solutions with a single compliance platform.

If your needs are limited to US sales tax in a few states, you're probably better served by a simpler tool like TaxJar or Avalara. But if you're expanding internationally or dealing with multiple types of tax compliance, Sovos gives you one platform to manage it all.
